This research evaluates methods that can help people achieve and maintain healthier eating.
The MyBestGI study evaluates methods that can help people learn to eat in healthier ways. The study emphasizes eating from food groups that are associated with prevention of colon and rectal cancers. These food groups contribute to a healthy gastro-intestinal [GI] system.
The MyBestGI study is a journey of learning and discovery. Learning how to incorporate healthful foods into your lifestyle can be enjoyable and tasty too. Join the study to begin this journey!

Common Questions
What is the study about?
This study evaluates three different methods that can help people eat in healthier ways.
We will test two different app-supported programs for achieving preventive eating as compared with a group that receives written information only.
This study ultimately hopes to optimize how advice for cancer prevention is provided.
How long is the study?
You would participate in the study for one year.
What happens during the study?
Everyone who enrolls in the 12-month study will receive information about healthy eating.
Everyone enrolled in the study will receive the results of the assessments taken at the visits. The assessments will inform you about your nutrient and food group intakes, your body measures, Veggie Meter results and breath testing results.
There are four study visits done in-person:
A visit to determine your eligibility, learn more about the study, and show you how to analyze your own eating online
A baseline visit to start on the study
A 6-month visit at the study mid-point
A 12-month visit to complete the study
Two of the eating plans involve using the MyBestGI App to log amounts eaten from specific food groups. These two eating plans are supported by 10 brief phone calls over the year you are in the study.
Do I have to already know how to use smartphone apps to participate?
No, study staff are available to meet with you to set up the MyBestGI App and provide instructions for using the app. They are also available to help if you need help with the app later.
Which eating program will I receive?
In the MyBestGI study, everyone will receive information about healthy eating. We plan to recruit 240 people. The process of assigning people into different eating programs is done by randomization. You have an equal chance of getting into any one of the three eating programs.
